Interview Summary

She describes what motivated her to write the two books, how her hearing loss has affected her writing, and the messages she hopes people will glean from her story and poems. She discusses themes in her writing such as self-isolation when we are different, compassion for others, our desire to remain independent throughout our lives, and thoughts surrounding our will to survive: the fear of surviving a loved one, the guilt of surviving a terror attack, and the struggle to survive against forces of nature.
